Sena leader cancels Wharton visit

Shiv Sena leader Suresh Prabhu cancelled his visit to Wharton on Monday as a mark of solidarity with Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi after the Ivy League university cancelled his key note address at the Wharton India Economic Forum.


Prabhu, a former power minister in the NDA government and member of the India Economic Forum termed the decision to cancel the talk “as unfair to Modi and an insult to India’’.

Meanwhile, reactions poured in on the online pages of both the group protesting against the Narendra Modi talk at Wharton and on the page of forum organisers after the cancellation of the talk.

The official page of the Wharton India Economic Forum had also pulled out the “platinum sponsor: Adani” section from the website by Monday evening following Gautam Adani’s withdrawal as keynote speaker and the group pulling out of sponsorship. 

Emails to the Wharton communications office as well as forum organisers did not elicit replies till late Monday.
