Health minister Suresh Shetty has written to the additional chief secretary (home) Umeshchandra Sarangi asking police inquiring into the clerk-slapping case.

MLA from Achalpur, Bachchu Kadu has on January 14 slapped Chandravadan Hagavne, a clerk, who allegedly demanded bribe from doctors seeking appointments as medical officers.

The department suspended Hagavane after an incident and a first information report was registered against Kadu at the Marine drive police station.

“The report presented to me by my department shows that Hagavane had admitted to his involvement in the first instance, but had later backtracked. We have initiated a police inquiry,” said Shetty told the HT.

But senior health officials pointed out that Hagavane was not directly involved in the process of doctors’ selection.

As far as action on independent MLA Kadu is concerned, Shetty maintained the case is registered and the police will look into that.
