The trial in the rape of the Spanish woman in Bandra last year is stuck as the prosecution is still waiting for the woman's DNA reports from the forensic science laboratory (FSL).

The court has now told the laboratory to expedite the process and submit the report as soon as possible.

The prosecution has said that a burglar, Mohammad Ansari alias Badshah, allegedly raped and robbed the 27-year-old on November 5 last year. A month later, the Bandra police filed a charge sheet in the case.

The case has been pending for the last five months, waiting for the trial to start.

However, as the DNA report, which is crucial evidence, is yet to come, the court cannot proceed, a police source said.

The court, on Monday, while rejecting the bail application of Badshah, told the FSL to expedite the DNA test.

The case is now expected to come up for hearing by next week.
