Three members of a family were arrested at the international airport here for allegedly trying to smuggle in 760 grams of gold worth Rs. 21.75 lakh from Dubai, a customs official said on Thursday.

Acting on a tip off, the sleuths recently intercepted Saadat Hussain Shabadri, his wife Shabana Nasreen and his mother Noorjahan at the arrival hall of terminal 2C of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport after they had landed from Dubai on an Emirates Airways flight, he said.

Upon inquiry, the trio stated they were not carrying any declarable goods. However, during frisking, 760 grams of gold worth  Rs. 21.75 lakh was found, according to the officer.

The trio was subsequently arrested under the relevant sections of Customs Act and the gold was seized, he said, adding that the trio was released on bail by court.
