Three sr citizens robbed of gold chains

Three senior citizens were targeted in a spate of chain-snatching incidents reported in the city since Thursday.

In the first incident, a 61-year-old woman was robbed of her gold mangalsutra by two unidentified bike-borne persons on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Govandi police, Indira Parmeshwar Nair, 61, a resident of Subhash Nagar in Chembur, was walking near her residence around 1.30pm when the incident took place.

“The pillion rider hit the victim’s neck with his hand. The victim tried to resist him but he pushed her and snatched the mangalsutra worth Rs. 50,000,” said an officer from Govandi police station.

At Vikhroli, 65-year-old Saraswati Nadar was out for a morning walk when two people on a motorbike snatched her mangalsutra worth at Rs. 2.20 lakh on Friday in Tagore nagar. 

At Grant road, Sulochana Salvi,70, was on her way home when an unidentified accused snatched her chain worth Rs27,000 around 7am.

In other incidents, Anita Shetty, 54, was robbed off her mangalsutra and gold chain, totalling Rs. 1.45 lakh by bike-borne men on SV road at Vile Parle.

In Ghatkopar, Reshma Raut, 50, was robbed of her chain worth Rs. 40,600, again by bike-borne men.
