From Delhi in March, to Chennai in April, and now Mumbai, 135 artists, performing artistes and fashion designers are staging a temporal art intervention and protest against gender-based violence in the country through an art exhibition ‘Resist’.
The initiative was born in the wake of the December 16 gangrape and murder of a 23-year-old woman in Delhi. “The shock of the Delhi rape case assaulted the sensibilities of many artists, not all of whom were in a position to demonstrate their agitation on the streets,” says Mayna Mukherjee, curator of Resist. “This exhibition offers a platform to the artists.”
Artist Anjolie Ela Menon, photographer Ram Rahman, multimedia artist Gigi Scaria are among those whose works will be displayed at the exhibition, which will next travel to either Hyderabad or Kolkata.
