A real estate agent from Vashi was found dead with a gunshot wound in his head in the forest area of Rasayani near Panvel on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Indrajeet Singh Kandhari alias Lovely Singh, 41. While the police have recorded a case of accidental death, they have not ruled out the possibility of murder.

Singh was last seen on May 14 when he was returning to the city from Pune with a friend and had alighted at Rasayani. “He told his friend that he had some work with a business associate. But he did not make it home that night,” said Vijay Jadhav, police inspector, Rasayani police station.

His family members lodged a missing complaint with the Rasayani police the next day. The police had just started searching for him on Thursday, when a local informed them of a body lying near a temple at Riz village.

The police found some identity proofs with Singh’s name on the body, which his family later confirmed. They recovered Singh’s revolver and Rs950 from the spot. “Based on the interim post mortem report, it appears that Singh shot himself. We are waiting for the final post mortem report that will come on Saturday,” Jadhav added.

Singh’s shocked family members said they would believe it was suicide only after the final police report. “There were no major problems and he was fine. It is difficult for us to believe that he would kill himself,” said his brother Jaswinder. Sources said the police are checking whether the death resulted from a business deal gone wrong.
