Industries minister Narayan Rane has asked the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief, Raj Thackeray, to verify his facts before accusing him of being part of the land purchase scams in the coastal Konkan region.

Rane said he would quit public life if the charges against him were proved to be true.

Speaking at a public rally in Khed, Ratnagiri, on February 15, Raj had said Rane was responsible for forcing hapless farmers to sell their land to several people, among them Rane’s supporters and well-wishers.

“Raj should have called me before making such wild allegations at a public function. I would have explained the truth to him,” he said in a statement released in his newspaper Prahaar on Monday.

Rane also blamed a journalist for making something out of nothing in a study report on the alleged land deal in Konkan.

Raj, on Friday, also inducted estranged Sena leader Parshuram Uparkar, who had contested the assembly by-polls against Rane seven years ago, into the MNS.

The Shiv Sena had made Uparkar a member of the legislative council, but did not give him a second term in the house. The leader developed differences with Sena chief Bal Thackeray and Raj’s cousin Uddhav Thackeray, which led to his defection from the Shiv Sena to the MNS on Friday.
