Fed up with constant beatings and verbal abuse, the 36-year-old wife of an assistant police inspector smashed his head with a hammer and a stone slab at their home in Marol police training campus on Sunday.
After killing her husband, Nandkishore Taksalkar, 43, Parvati walked into Powai police station, confessed to the murder and surrendered.
Bajirao Bhosale, senior police inspector at Powai police station, said the couple had had a huge fight just a day before the murder, which ended with Parvati filing a non-cognisable complaint against Taksalkar, who had a drinking problem.
“I counselled them. Taksalkar apologised and promised to behave himself,” Bhosale said.
However, Taksalkar went home, got drunk and fought with Parvati again, after which he fell asleep. That’s when Parvati hit him on the head, the police said.
According to the police, Taksalkar suspected that she was having an affair and would fight with her if she even spoke to a man.
It was a second marriage for both Taksalkar and Parvati. They had been married for six years and had no child, but both had children from previous marriages.
Parvati’s 14-year-old son was present in the room when the murder took place, the police said.
