A day after HT reported the police apathy faced by actor-director Pooja Bhatt after she called the police helpline (100), Sadanand Date, joint commissioner of police, law and order, conducted an inquiry and found that the policewoman who answered the call had not performed satisfactorily. She will face imminent police action.

The report also triggered a review of the public relations techniques of the control room staff. Crash courses for police personnel are to be organised in the next two months, Date said.

Bhatt had received a call on her cellphone from an unidentified number around 12.43am on Wednesday. When she answered the phone, the caller started abusing her. When the actor called 100 for help, a policewoman turned her away.

“I went through the recorded conversation between Bhatt and the control room staff. I found that the response of the policewoman was improper. Disciplinary action is going to be initiated against her. She will have to file a reply to the assistant commissioner of police, control room, on her conduct,” said Date.

Date said since the behaviour of the policewoman was “not up to the mark,” he has recommended action against her. As part of the action, the policewoman could be removed from control room duty.

Bhatt had said that she had later called 103, the police helpline for women, children and senior citizens, and a female constable helped her with the contact numbers of Bandra police station.

Bhatt called the police station about four to six times, but there was no answer. She then approached the police on Wednesday morning and filed a complaint.

“The lady constable who attended to Bhatt on the 103 helpline will be rewarded for her prompt assistance and guidance,” said Date.
