In a reminder of the Keenan-Rueben case, a 19-year-old boy, who attempted to save a girl from the harassment of some boys, was stabbed to death by the accused at Navneet Nagar in Dombivili (East).

The police have arrested five youths in connection with the case, of which four are minors.

Police inspector Ramakant Mahire from Manapada Police Station, Dombivili, said the deceased, Santosh Vichhivora, was returning from work on Monday night, when he saw five to six youths harassing a girl who reportedly stayed in the same locality as him.

Vichhivora tried to stop the youths, following which the enraged group of men stabbed him with a knife, said Mahire. He died before medical aid could be provided, he added.

Vichhivora, who lost his father a few years ago, was the sole bread winner of his family. He is survived by his sister, a Class 10 student, and his mother, who is a cancer patient, said Vichhivora’s relatives.
