Lama, who was in the neuro intensive care unit died around 2pm and his body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.

Doctors treating him at the hospital claimed the boy had been critical since day one and his condition never improved.

He was on ventilator support for the last 10 days. "He was brought to us with critical injuries; a fractured skull and was bleeding profusely. His brain had suffered serious damage," said a senior doctor treating him at the trauma centre.

Doctors performed a life-saving surgery on Lama soon after he was brought to the hospital on October 1, wherein they repaired the ruptured dural matter- a dense, leathery membrane covering that protects the brain and the spinal cord.

In Lama's cases, surgeons had to use a graft to repair the damage as it was too large to be sutured.

During the three hour long surgery, the doctor also removed fractured pieces of his skull and inserted a small plastic tube- external ventricular drain- inside his brain to drain out the blood and fluid getting accumulated inside due to the injury. This procedure is done to relieve the pressure on the brain.

"We tried very hard to maintain his vital parameters with medicines. He was on strong antibiotics but there was no improvement. His heart finally stopped," the doctor added.
