The 28-year-old son of a senior advocate, who worked as an assistant in the legal cell of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs. 50 lakh by unknown people from near his office in central Delhi. Preliminary investigations suggest that it might be a case of staged kidnapping.

At 11.45pm on monday, the victim’s father, RR Ahlawat received a call from his son’s  phone and the unknown caller told him that that they had kidnapped Rohit. “The caller demanded Rs. 50 lakh. After negotiation, the ransom amount was reduced to Rs. 25 lakh,” the officer said.

On Monday night, Rohit had called the police to inform them that four unidentified men in a car were trying to kidnap him while he was walking towards LNJP hospital. But before the police could reach up to him, he was kidnapped.

“When put on surveillance, we found that location of Rohit’s phone was changing frequently. It is an unusual phenomenon which professional criminals often avoid,” said the officer.
