Three women, including a senior citizen, were arrested for lifting bags from outside Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport's Terminal-3, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said on Sunday.

Identified as Saroja, 65, Bosaia, 55, and Rohini, 25, who also had a two-year-old girl child in her arms at the time of apprehension, they were identified through CCTV footage, said a CISF spokesperson.

According to the CISF, the Tamil-speaking women hail from Kolkata and are found to have been previously involved in two theft cases.

“On Saturday evening, around 11pm, a CISF surveillance team observed that the three women in question were wanted for two recent cases of theft, including one belonging to the principal of a public school in Faridabad,” said Hemendra Singh, PRO, CISF.

When they could not justify their presence outside Terminal 1-D, the trio disclosed they were familiar with the external topography of Chennai, Mumbai and a other major airports.

Their modus operandi, the CISF said, consisted of visiting airports during rush hours and selecting passengers visibly carrying valuables.
