35,000 armed policemen for a smooth day

For a smooth and violence-free MCD poll, the Delhi Police will deploy 35,000 armed police personnel across 11,572 polling booths in the Capital. Also, 80,000 polling staffers will be deployed across the city.

As per security plan, one head constable along three constables will be deployed at 272 sensitive booths. One head constable assisted by six constables will guard 54 ‘hyper-sensitive’ booths. At the remaining booths, one constable and a home guard jawan will be present.

Dharmendra Kumar, special commissioner of police (law and order), said, "The deployment of police personnel on election duty have been done by name. Of the our total strength, 15, 000 police personnel are from Delhi Police while the same number of force will be from home guards taken from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi.”

An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) will be deputed in polling stations that have more than 11 polling booths. The police have also deployed 32 Additional Deputy Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners of Police along with 77 ACPs and 15 inspectors for further assistance.
