84.44% students pass CBSE Cl X exams

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday announced the class 10th examination results with an overall pass per centage of 84.44 per cent - an increase of 7.28 per cent as compared to 2006.


Girls performed better than boys with a pass per centage of 84.72 per cent as compared to that of boys, which is 84.24 per cent.

In the year 2007, a total of 705857 candidates appeared for the class 10th board examination - an 8.93 per cent increase in number of candidates over the last year.

At 93.87 per cent, the overall pass per centage of Ajmer region is the highest as compared to other five regions. Chennai ranks second in the table of regions with a pass per centage of 93.47 per cent, followed by Panchkula with 89.08 per cent and Allahabad with 87.44 per cent.

Delhi stands fifth in the list with a pass per cent of 77.18 per cent and Guwahati region has performed the worst with a pass per centage of only 56 per cent.

CBSE had set up 2,490 examination centres, including 49 for foreign schools, for the smooth conduct of the examination.
