It was a case where superstitions proved fatal. Thirty-year-old Pawan Kumar, who shot dead his wife at the Karkarduma Metro station, was allegedly following a godman's 'advice'.

According to a senior police officer, Kumar was having a matrimonial dispute with his wife and recently visited Haridwar to discuss his problems with a godman. Offering a solution to ensure a better married life, the godman told him that his father-in-law, Bisan Das, was the root of all his problems and he should do something to get rid of him.

With strong belief in his spiritual guru, Kumar executed a cold-blooded murder at the Metro station on Tuesday afternoon. The police said Kumar had planned the incident and came well-prepared. He was carrying his father's licensed .12 bore double-barrel gun and an ammunition waist belt full of bullets.

Deepti, his wife, had gone to the Karkardooma courts with her father to attend court proceedings. Deepti had filed a case against her husband a few months ago. After the hearing, which Kumar also attended, the father-daughter duo took a rickshaw to the Metro station to board a train for their home in Chirag Delhi.

"Kumar followed them till the entrance of the Metro station in his red Maruti Alto car. Then, he parked his car and followed the victims till the escalator at gate number 1 on the ground floor. Here, Kumar fired five bullets at them before fleeing the spot after scaling the boundary wall behind the Metro station," said a senior police officer, adding that Kumar left the gun and bullet belt outside the building.

Though the 29-year-old victim was rushed to Hedgewar Hospital, she was declared brought dead by the doctors. Das was taken to Deepak Memorial Hospital from where he was referred to GTB Hospital. His condition is serious, doctors said.

While Deepti sustained one fatal gunshot, her father sustained three bullet injuries. The fifth bullet, reportedly, hit the wall.  Sanjay Bhatia, additional DCP (railways), said, "We have enough evidence against Kumar and he will be arrested soon."

The couple got married nine years ago and had two daughters. Two years ago, Kumar had opened a readymade garments showroom but closed it after incurring heavy losses.

His father, Karan Singh Premi, retired as deputy director from the Delhi government's revenue department. Premi has been the owner of the licenced gun, used in the crime, for the past 15 years.
