The Delhi unit of BJP on Thursday demanded registration of an FIR against chief minister Shiela Dikshit for allegedly misusing government funds for “political purpose” by placing advertisements.
“The Delhi Lokayukta’s report must be made basis for lodging an FIR against Dikshit. It is a criminal case of breach of trust,” said BJP leader Vijender Gupta.
Lokayukta Manmohan Sarin’s report has indicted Dikshit for misusing public funds for political purposes” by carrying out an advertisement drive ahead the 2007-2008 assembly elections.
“Her act is height of immorality. Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit is cunning and thick-skinned as she has not reacted to the Lokayukta’s report,” said Gupta.
“This is the first time when any Lokayukta has recommended action against a chief minister for misuse of the public exchequer for political purposes through government advertisements,” Gupta said.
The party announced a protest at Dikshit’s residence on Friday.
“We will hold a protest at Dikshit’s residence. We want her to reimburse Rs. 11 crore used for an advertisement campaign for political purposes,” Delhi BJP unit chief Vijay Goel.
Sarin had recommended President Pranab Mukherjee to “advise” Dikshit to reimburse either herself or through her party a sum of R11 crore as half the cost of the advertisements.
Goel said the BJP will request the President to take action against Dikshit.
“Why is there a need for a Lokayukta when you ignore its report? This is insult to the constitutional authority,” said Goel.
