According to the police, the incident took place on the Delhi-Kolkata flight on Saturday. While passengers were boarding, a friend of the pilot approached him to chat with him. During the process, the air-hostess asked the pilot which seat she should give to his friend and it was then that the pilot allegedly misbehaved with her.

Air India has ordered an internal enquiry and the pilot has been grounded till the completion of the enquiry. “We got to know about the incident from the police as the air-hostess did not approach us. A team has been constituted to look into the matter. Statements of both the parties will be taken and action will be taken only after the completion of the enquiry,” an Air India official said.

Police sources said that the woman approached them on Sunday and on the basis of her complaint, a case under section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at the airport police station.

“The pilot will be called as we need to know his version of the story. As per the complaint, the pilot passed lewd remarks and if needed, other cabin crew will be questioned,” a senior police officer said. Further investigations are on.

The police said the pilot might be questioned for inviting his friend into the aircraft. Sources said that his friend works with one of the agencies at the airport and he too will be asked to join the investigation.
