A group of people on Monday protested outside Parliament Street police station alleging that a woman, detained for marching towards India Gate, was harassed by a police official and told to mop the floor, a charge denied by police which also ordered an inquiry.
According to the victim, she was taken to Parliament street police station when she was on way to India Gate to attend a protest around 9 am on Sunday.
"I was told to mop the floor of the police station and was also abused by a police officer after being taken into custody" the victim claimed. "They even tried to hit me," she added. She was released by 7 pm Sunday.
A group of people, mostly students of Delhi University gathered outside the police station this morning demanding action against the officer.
Police denied the allegations but informed the protesters that they will conduct an inquiry into the allegations.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Tyagi met protesters and assured a vigilance inquiry into the issue.
However, this did not satisfy the protesters, who included the complainant. They demanded an FIR against the senior police official.
The CCTV footages of the girl being taken into the custody was shown by the police to the media later. They also showed it to the protesters.
But the protesters alleged that the video was fake and it didn't have full footages of the victims captivity.
