A joint team of the Delhi and Surat Police on Tuesday conducted raids across Delhi to track Narayan Sai, the son of self-proclaimed godman Asaram facing arrest in a sexual assault case.
Delhi Police sources said they were informed that Sai, 41, may be hiding out in Najafgarh (southwest Delhi) or Rohini (outer Delhi) as his mobile phone had been traced to those locations. "We were approached by senior Gujarat Police officials and asked to assist one of their teams, currently camping in Delhi, with technical resources and personnel," said a senior Delhi officer.
Sai has been absconding since the Surat Police recently registered complaints filed by two sisters - one against him and the other against his father - of rape, sexual assault, illegal confinement and other charges.
The elder sibling has said Asaram assaulted her sexually between 1997 and 2006 while the younger sister's case against Sai dates back to 2002-05. Asaram is currently in the custody of the state police.
The Delhi Police said they raided farmhouses in Najafgarh and multi-storey residential complexes in Rohini and adjacent areas. "We suspect he (Sai) might have slipped into Haryana but are still carrying out raids to track him within our jurisdiction," the officer said.
