Though she continues to remain in the intensive care unit of New Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, doctors said they have removed her ventilator support.

“Her condition is serious but stable. She is now able to breathe on her own and is a shade better than yesterday,” said a senior doctor at the hospital.

Roshini was savagely attacked with an axe in a classroom on the campus, leaving her with a broken skull bone. Her brain cover was damaged, there were wounds in the abdomen and her wrist was fractured.

She was profusely bleeding when taken to the hospital and had to undergo two life-saving procedures in a single day.

Doctors surgically removed the broken pieces and dead tissues and successfully repaired the brain covering. The wrist and the damaged tendons were also fixed in a two-hour-long surgery on Wednesday evening.

She had to be again wheeled into the operation theatre late on Wednesday night after she developed a clot in the brain.

“We are closely monitoring her. She has been given strong antibiotics so that the infection does not spread. She will remain in the ICU for a while and it will take us some more time to assess the exact level of damage to her brain,” said the doctor.

All her family members have met her. Roshini’s father arrived from Muzaffarpur in Bihar on Friday. Roshini is the youngest of eight siblings.
