Egged on by the Delhi traffic police, the state transport department is trying to crack one of the most common problems faced by auto-rickshaw users with a colour code.
There are around 70,000 autos in the city, and yet every day, commuters are delayed or stranded, because auto drivers like to pick and choose their routes.
If an area-based colour code is developed and every auto assigned a colour to connote the zone it will operate in, this problem can be eliminated, said additional CP (traffic) Anil Shukla.
“We may soon issue notices to drivers to inform us about their choice of area,” said transport minister Ramakant Goswami. Rajendra Soni of Bhartiya Majdoor Sangh Auto Union welcomed the move.
