Known for his particular brand of wit and humour, BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu made the most of his “five minutes” in front of the gathering at Japanese Park in Rohini on Sunday.

Addressing the state Bharatiya Janata Party’s Vikas Rally, he took the Bollywood route to take a dig at the Congress-led UPA government, “Yeh Sarkar aur kitna giregi, Congress Munni se jyaada badnam ho gayee.” He then slammed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “Yeh Pradhan Mantri na sardar hai na asardar hai.”

Speaking in both Hindi and Punjabi, he came up with both quotes and couplets which will be lost in translation.

Alluding to state party chief Vijay Goel and former Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana, he said, “Vijay Goel se bole Khurana, hai ram Modi ka hai zamana.”

The dual power centres of Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh were slammed by Sidhu. “Modi is desh ko sone ki chidiya banana chahte hain aur Manmohan Singh isse Sonia ki chidiya banana chahte hain.”

The BJP MP from Amritsar, who till yesterday was on an indefinite fast demanding clearance for development projects in his constituency, went on to say, “The old leaves have gone, a new season has arrived. In 2014, the government will be formed on Narendra Modi's character.”

He went on to say that the UPA government will not last long as “dulha bhi hai, baraat bhi”.

On Modi’s favourite theme of ‘Gujarat model’, Sidhu said, “Jisne swarg na dekha ho, woh dekhe jake Gujarat ko”.
