The Delhi BJP on Sunday promised to provide flats to every family in slum cluster, if voted to power.
Addressing a slum dwellers’ congregation at Talkatora Stadium, the party promised power supply to each house through a ‘single-point connection’. It also promised clean toilet blocks, a police booth near every cluster, regular and uninterrupted supply of clean water, dispensary, and ration card to every adult.
The JJ Maha Sammelan as the BJP called it was the third such convention in succession organised by the party to woo sections of the society that are considered the Congress’ vote bank - the Muslims, the Dalits and the slum dwellers.
Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel said the flats would be developed on a public-private partnership model at spots where these families presently live.
“While this may take some time to begun, I promise that you will be given cheap electricity, dispensary, police booth, clean water at once when we come to power,” Goel said.
He said the living conditions of the people in Delhi would further improve with 30 per cent reduction in power tariff.
Former BJP President Nitin Gadkari warned the Congress of the “consequences which lay ahead in case it returned to power”. “The Congress has been giving slogans to remove poverty since Independence. Despite voting for them again and again, you remained poor because after coming to power, the Congress picks your pockets,” Gadkari said.
