The BJP reacted sharply to Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s Kargil remark and flayed the party for failing to control inflation and corruption while claiming credit for economic reforms including FDI.

"Did they (Congress) oblige the NDA by supporting us in Kargil war. That is the duty of every patriotic citizen to support the country's armed forces and the government at the time of a war," BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said, terming the Congress support as nothing special.

Gandhi had said that the BJP should support the UPA government’s economic policies in interest of the country as Congress did during Kargil war when BJP led NDA was in power.

Reacting to Congress rally on Sunday, BJP’s leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said it was intended to create false bravado when the Congress has failed on financial front and on providing clean government.

“It (Congress) has no idea on how to control prices and has rationalised diesel and LPG price hike. The Congress is rejoicing in the misery of the common man," Jaitley said.

The BJP also accused the government of failing to address the issues raised by people regarding FDI in multi-brand retail and said the policy will benefit only retailers and not the farmers.

CPI’s Gurudas Dasgupta said that despite top echelons of the government pursuing economic reforms for a long time people were yet to see any benefits. “In fact, country is facing high inflation, recession and economic stagnation,” he said

Yoga guru Ramdev went a step ahead and accused the Congress of trying to show its popularity through a rented crowd. He also accused the government of thinking about multi-nations and not the common people of the country.

Arvind Kejriwal led India Against Corruption on Sunday described as Congress rally a flop show and accused the party of pushing the country into a ditch whereas Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy termed the speeches of Congress leaders as disastrous.
