Deepak Bhardwaj's body reached the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) around 1.30pm on Tuesday.
His inconsolable son was accompanied by six of the family acquaintances and camped outside the AIIMS mortuary, where the body was kept, agreeing to leave only after the doctors assured him that the post-mortem will happen only on Wednesday.
"The body had bullet injuries, and it could be death due to excessive blood loss. But the actual nature of injuries and cause of death will be ascertained only after the post-mortem," said a doctor in the forensic medicine department, AIIMS, requesting anonymity. The post-mortem was delayed allegedly due to the hospital not receiving the case report from the police in time.
"We have to follow the protocol, and in this case we didn't get the Investigation Officer's report in time. If all the formalities are completed today (Tuesday), we will conduct the autopsy tomorrow morning," said the doctor.
