Panic gripped the Ravidass Camp slum cluster in south Delhi’s RK Puram Sector 3 on Monday evening where some youth tried to bomb the house of prime accused in gangrape of a 23-year-old woman.

Following the botched bid to explode crude bombs near the house of Ram Singh, local residents nabbed a man while his two accomplices managed to escape. The youth was later handed over to the police.

Two crude bombs were recovered from the possession of the youth, who was detained questioned at the RK Puram police station, said a police source.

Both the bombs were defused on the spot by a bomb detection/disposal squad (BDS) team.

A constable reportedly suffered minor injuries while the bombs were being defused. The information, however, could not be confirmed as officers were not available for comment.

Sources said the incident came to light around 8.30 pm. “The youths were roaming outside Ram Singh’s house. One of them claimed that they had come to bomb Singh's house,” said the source.
