The woman, who is in her late forties, believes that her son Arvind (name changed) was involved in an accident and wants him home so that he recovers from his injuries quickly.

She is desperate to see her son, Arvind's father told this correspondent. "We haven't informed her about the tragedy that befell Arvind and his friend that night. She believes that her son was involved in an accident and is being treated a hospital," he said.

Arvind, scarred and traumatised by the incident, wants to return home and meet his mother as soon possible.

"He is showing signs of trauma and feels miserable because he couldn't save his friend. We are waiting for legal formalities to be completed to take him back home," added his father.

"A doctor known to us in Delhi is giving him proper treatment and counselling and he is recovering well," he added.

Arvind, accompanied by his father, uncle and three others, reached the Saket court on Wednesday afternoon, where his statement was recorded before a metropolitan magistrate.

Clad in a track suit, a pullover and a brown cap that hid his injuries, Arvind looked spent when he emerged from the court. He refused to talk. His uncle told HT that he was feeling guilty because the decision to take the bus was his.
