A businessman was allegedly robbed of Rs. 7.5 lakh after three armed assailants on a motorcycle intercepted his car on a south Delhi street on Sunday evening, police said.
The police said the incident occurred around 9:30pm when the victim, identified as Kapil Kapoor who operates a mobile retail business at north Delhi’s Karol Bagh market, was en route his Jungpura residence.
“Kapoor, accompanied by his nephew Suresh, was heading back home in his Swift car when the assailants overtook them near a hospital located in Nizamuddin area,” said an officer.
According to the police, the assailants brandished their weapons and directed Suresh, who was driving, to halt. As soon as the vehicle stopped, the men smashed its rear window and threatened to shoot Kapoor if he resisted.
“When Kapoor tried to stop them from snatching a bag containing around Rs. 7.5 lakh, they attacked him behind his head with the pistol, forced him and Suresh to step off and fled in the vehicle,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, the uncle-nephew duo intimated the police control room about the incident and a message to intercept the stolen vehicle was flashed across the Capital.
“Sometime later, the vehicle was found abandoned near India Gate. The assailants seemed to have fled in it apparently to stall the victims from reporting the matter to the local police. We have registered a case and efforts are on to nab the victims,” the officer added.
