The CBI on Monday informed the Supreme Court that it wanted to drop charges under TADA and Explosive Substances Act that were termed as additional by Constitutional Court of Portugal upholding termination of Abu Salem's extradition in 2005.

The additional charges were levied against Salem for his involvemnet in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.

Appearing before a bench of Justice P Sathasivam and Justice MY Iqbal, attorney general GE Vahanvati told the court that in wake of its application informing the court to drop additional charges, the SC should “reconsider, modify or clarify” its earlier verdict passed on September 10, 2010.

The Supreme Court had then dismissed a plea made by Salem contending that the additional charges framed by the special court in Mumbai pertaining to Sections 5 and 6 of the TADA, Section 4 (b) of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 9B of the Explosives Act were in violation of the extradition order.
