Even as MPs voiced serious concern over the tapping of the alleged conversation between a CBI counsel and a corporate boss — citing it as a security hazard — the CBI has started investigations to ascertain if the tapping was done as part of a corporate war.

A day after the broadcast of the purported conversation between CBI counsel AK Singh and Unitech MD Sanjay Chandra by CNN IBN, CBI chief Ranjit Sinha deposed before the JPC and assured that damage control measures had already been taken within the agency.

Official sources, however, said that the conversation did not appear to have been made over the phone. “The ambient noise indicates that there were other people around and the venue may be a basement or a canteen.”
