Two inputs generated by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) have put its special director Rajinder Kumar in spot in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case. But the CBI now says its probe into Kumar’s role pertains to conspiracy to kill Ishrat Jahan and her three associates – Amjad Ali Rana, Jeeshan Johar and Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai in a fake encounter on June 15, 2004 in
According to sources, first IB input was generated on April 22, 2004 (vide IB TP 0327) that claimed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has instructed its cadres to monitor inputs of LK Advani, Narendra Modi and Praveen Togadia. This input was shared with all state police chief.
Besides, Rajinder Kumar as head of IB’s Ahmedabad unit orally shared during the relevant period with the commissioner of Ahmedabad inputs about two Pakistani Punjabi terrorists with Punjabi accent having several aliases moving in Gujarat and their activities being coordinated by an Indian who was a resident of Pune. The IB has also accepted that aliases of three males killed with Ishrat were similar to what Rajinder Kumar had shared with the then police commissioner of Ahmedabad.
Sources in the IB claim that Rajinder Kumar’s role was limited to these two inputs only. He was not part of any conspiracy to murder Ishrat and her associates. But the CBI says they are probing Rajinder Kumar for being part of the conspiracy to kill the alleged hit squad of LeT that Ishrat was part of.
