The low temperatures and chill forced Delhiites to remain inside their houses on Tuesday, even though it was a holiday for many people.

And the recording of the minimum temperature at 4 degrees and the sun not coming out till noon only added to people's misery. "The sun did not come out till very late and the morning was very chilly. Tuesday being a holiday for both my husband and me, we had decided to go out but the cold forced us to remain inside all day," said Geetika Khanna, who works in an MNC in Gurgaon.

Thick fog in the city also made life difficult for many.

"Along with the cold and the chilly winds, Tuesday morning was very foggy," said Deepak Malik, a resident of Mayur Vihar.
