Civic agencies boost property tax mechanism

In a bid to boost their property tax collection mechanism and bring all residents under its net, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation is set to engage a private company to conduct a door-to-door survey in its jurisdiction and tag every property with a unique number. The North civic body on the other hand announced an amnesty scheme from Monday.

Chairman of the standing committee Sanjay Surjan said there were around 10 lakh properties in the East body’s jurisdiction, out of which only 2.26 lakh pay property tax.

“A unique property code will be issued after a survey during which photographs and measurements of each building will be documented. Exact details will be available online,” Surjan said. The final preamble will be available with the standing committee in a few days.
