The Capital might witness light showers this weekend as the Met department has predicted the cloudy condition to develop with snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
The temperature will also dip by a couple of degrees, say officials. As a result, the coming
weekend and the second week of the month might be a bit colder than usual.

Met officials say though January has been warmer compared to previous years, it won’t offer respite from the chill to residents in the first fortnight of the month.

“This January has been slightly warmer compared to previous years as the mercury didn’t hit the zero-mark. The minimum temperature during the month was recorded at four degrees Celsius, though there were days with bone-freezing wind,” said BP Yadav, director-forecast, IMD.

“The coming days will be slightly colder as snowfall has been predicted in Jammu and Kashmir and some other areas,” he added.

The Met department says fog and cloudy conditions in the Capital kept January warmer.

“Heat gets trapped as the sky is not clear due to fog and clouds. This is one reason why the nights were warmer and days colder,” Yadav added.

Friday remained slightly warmer with the maximum temperature settling at 23.8 degree Celsius and the minimum at 9.8 degree Celsius.

On Saturday, there might be a slight decrease in the maximum temperature, while the minimum might increase by one degree Celsius. The Met department has predicted that foggy condition might develop if it gets windy. However, there are little chances that it would get dense. This can affect train and flight services on Sunday.
