Complaints pile up on MCD's Facebook page, wait for redressal grows longer

The problems caused by the trifurcation of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have entered the virtual world.

The Facebook page opened by MCD in January 2011 to address grievances of residents has not found any takers in the new corporations except the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), leaving complainants indignant.

From the time of its launch, the page has accumulated 1,531 complaints, of which, 1,513 have been solved on priority basis.

The new complaints, however, are not being counted and the page is flooded with comments from people, who are still awaiting a response.

A senior official of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) said they would create their own Facebook page and an official complaint register so that prompt action is taken when complaints are made.

"During transitions, problems are bound to happen. They will be corrected," he added.

There is also a fuss over the official website of erstwhile MCD which is still functioning in a unified manner. The MCD provides online services like payment of property taxes, birth and date certificate, etc. The delay in formation of the three micro websites is affecting peoples' work.

"We are planning to create three micro websites which will be operational in a month," said a senior official at the Civic Centre, the headquarters of NDMC and SDMC.
