Engulfed by protests over the Delhi gangrape, the government is faced with the Telangana heat on Friday.
But dilemma is the eight parties concerned are evenly placed for and against separation of the state — like they were in January 2010, when first such meeting was held.
While Telangana Rashtra Samithi, BJP and the CPI are in support of Telangana, CPM and AIMIM are opposed to separation.
YSR Congress, represented first time, refrained from a clear stand. Opinion within the two major parties — the Congress and TDP is split in half.
The uncertainty is more so in the Congress. Till late evening, it was unclear as who would be representing the party in the meeting.
"We don’t expect any decision on Friday. But we would pin down the Congress and the government demanding its stand on statehood," Kishan Reddy, BJP state chief told Hindustan Times.
“As the party in power at the Centre and state we demand the Congress to spell out its stand now,” Kadiam Srihari, TDP leader said. TRS chief K Chandrasekhara said he is not hopeful of any outcome.
