With Murli Manohar Joshi toeing the BJP line on the demand for JPC in the 2G scam, Congress on Friday expressed the hope that the PAC Chairman will maintain the dignity of the Constitutional committee in the interest of democracy.
"We do hope that Dr Joshi and all concerned will try to maintain the dignity of the Constitutional committee like PAC in the interest of democratic values", party spokesman Shakeel Ahamed said.
His comment came a day after Joshi's statement that "as a member of BJP" he is in favour of a JPC into the 2G spectrum issue, insisting at the same time that the PAC he heads has "vast powers" in bringing greater accountability in public spending.
The Congress had on Thursday said that what Joshi has said was nothing new. "As a member of the BJP, he has on earlier occasions asked for the formation of the JPC. He is examining the CAG report as head of a Parliamentary Committee".
