Girl raped by cousin, then shot at
Rohtak: The nationwide protests over the Delhi gangrape has emboldened a 19-year-old woman to come forward and report the sexual abuse she had undergone two months ago.

The woman was raped by her 23-year-old cousin and she was shot when she tried to escape.

The youth, Deepak Kumar has been arrested.

Kumar had apparently taken out the woman for a drive and raped her in the car. When she tried to escape, he shot her.

The bullet lodged in her shoulder and she had to undergo treatment at a local hospital for two months, said a police officer.

The crime was not reported as the youth had threatened the family that he would kill them if they approach the police. The man has been booked for rape, attempt to murder and criminal intimidation, Arora said.

Acid attack on woman in Srinagar
Srinagar:
On the second day of the year dedicated to the girl child by the J&K government, a woman faced acid attack in Srinagar.

The attackers were trying to mar her chances for marriage, the police said after preliminary investigations.

On Wednesday, a man in his twenties had approached the woman in Baghat Parraypora and sprayed her with acid. She was taken to a hospital, where doctors said her condition is stable.

Within hours, the police arrested the youth, identified as Reyaz Ahmad Nath.

55-year-old woman raped by driver
Bangalore: A 55-year-old woman has accused her driver of raping her during a New Year party. The victim, originally from Mumbai, has been living with her daughter in Bangalore.

The driver, Hanumantha Raju, had come to her house for the party, said a police officer. The man had been working for her for ten years and has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

16-year-old girl abducted in Punjab
Nawanshahr:
A 16-year-old girl was allegedly abducted by unidentified persons at Garh Padhana village in Punjab's Nawanshahr district on Monday.

In the complaint, the girl's father said on returning from work on Monday, his wife told him that their daughter had not returned.

This is the second case of a minor girl's abduction to be registered at the Rahon police station in the past 10 days.
