At a strategy meeting in Chennai on Saturday, the top DMK leadership did not rule out the possibility of skipping the UPA-2 second anniversary dinner to be hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the Capital on Sunday.
All six DMK ministers in the Centre were present at the meeting at party chief M Karunanidhi’s Gopalapuram residence to show solidarity with the leader.
Karunanidhi’s daughter, Kanimozhi, was sent to Tihar jail on Friday for her alleged role in taking kickbacks for getting 2G spectrum allocations out of turn for a tainted company during former telecom minister A Raja’s tenure.
The kickback, according to the CBI, the investigating agency, was received in the form of a Rs. 200-crore corporate loan for the DMK-owned Kalaignar TV.
Though party sources said a final decision would be taken only on Sunday morning, none of the party’s central ministers had made any travel plans for Sunday morning.
Also Karunanidhi’s two sons, MK Alagiri and MK Stalin, grandnephew Dayanidhi Maran and senior party leaders were huddled for over three hours discussing strategies to save Kanimozhi.
