For Priti Gupta, hopes of making it to a college in Delhi University are now flagging. Yet, Gupta is still hopeful of fulfilling her dream of an education from DU through the non-collegiate women’s education board (NCWEB).

Sources said the NCWEB, which starts its admission procedure on Monday, is gradually becoming a fall-back option for many who may not make the cut in a regular DU college.

“I have scored 83% in my Class 12 exams and I’m uncertain of making it to a regular college in DU because there’s a lot of unpredictability about the cut-offs. It is better to secure some form of admission in DU than not get admission at all,” Gupta said.

Officials at the NCWEB claimed that this pattern was observed among students, largely due to the uncertainty about the cut-off trends this year.

While courses such as BA (Programme) and BCom have been dispensed with under the four-year programme, these courses are still on offer by the NCWEB.

“A lot of students fear that they will not make it to any of the regular colleges.

The NCWEB is a great fall-back option for them.

We largely catered to students who were working or pursuing something else in the week,” said Aarti Saxena, director, NCWEB.

However, officials said that for students who wanted to complete an honours degree, opting for the NCWEB would not serve the purpose.

But for those planning to exit after their third year with a Bachelor’s degree, NCWEB is a suitable alternative.
