A day after she was admitted to the AIIMS trauma centre with severe injuries all over her body, the six-year-old girl found in a public toilet in south Delhi continues to remain in serious but stable condition.

The Delhi Police, meanwhile, are on the lookout for a lone assailant who they suspect was behind the brutal rape of the victim and is probably a drug addict living in the same Badarpur slum where the incident was reported from on Friday evening.

“Around 400 to 500 houses in the slum have been searched to verify if anyone living there is absconding,” said Ajay Chaudhary, additional commissioner of police (southeast). “We are on the right track and are confident of nabbing the accused very soon.”

Chaudhary’s assurance came after dozens of angry slum residents protested for around 45 minutes outside the Badarpur police station demanding the arrest of the suspect within 24 hours.

The victim is in ICU where she was shifted after life-saving surgery late Friday. She has severe injuries in her genitals and a deep cut on her neck.
