A day after the driver of a cash van fled away with Rs. 49 lakh after abandoning the vehicle in Central Delhi’s Karol Bagh area, the Central District Police have arrested him along with his accomplice, from Etah district in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday morning. The stolen amount has also been recovered from the duo, police said.
While the driver has been identified as Satish, his associate is said to be his cousin Shailendra. The latter was reportedly working with the security company under a fictitious name -- Sanjay.
On Wednesday, Satish decamped with Rs. 49 lakh while his colleagues were loading money in an ATM in Karol Bagh.
According to a senior police officer, the two were nabbed by four teams of the Central District Police from Satish's home in Etah. They were traced through technical surveillance.
"Just as Satish drove away with the money from Padam Singh Road in Karol Bagh, Shailendra followed the van on his motorcycle. They stopped at Gali No 28 in Raigerpura and went inside the van. They broke the lock of the cash box with a hammer and then stuffed the entire cash in two bags and fled away on their motorcycle," the officer said, adding that the duo reached Etah on the same motorcycle.
The two have been brought to the national capital by the police teams. “They will now be produced before a Delhi court and we will seek their further custody. Investigators are interrogating them to find out if someone else was involved in the crime,” the officer added.
