Days after the election dates were announced, the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to speed up work on its manifesto.

According to sources, BJP leader Harsh Vardhan, convenor of the manifesto committee, met senior BJP leader LK Advani to seek his advice.

Sources said Harsh Vardhan was quite unhappy on being sidelined at Narendra Modi’s rally on September 29, and he discussed the matter on Monday.

“The issue of declaring the name of the chief ministerial candidate was discussed and whether the party will be declaring it before the assembly elections,” said a source.

According to senior BJP leaders, rather than having a single manifesto for the entire party, they plan to have several manifestos that would cover different sections, including Purvanchalis, youth and others.

“The party is trying to speed up work related to the elections and campaigning. Manifesto is a crucial element, which is why a lot of deliberations are taking place in framing it. On Monday, Harsh Vardhan, who is in charge of the manifesto committee, met Advani ji to seek his advice and suggestions,” said a source.

“Safety for women, price rise and corruption are the main focus areas and we will highlight them through our manifesto,” said another leader.

AAP declares two more candidates

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday announced its candidates for the Rajouri Garden and Ambedkar Nagar constituencies.

Preetpal Singh Saluja, a social worker, who had taken part in the India Against Corruption’s agitation, is the candidate for Rajouri Garden, while Ashok Singh Chauhan, cricketer and also a social worker fighting for local issues, is Ambedkar Nagar’s candidate, AAP said in a statement.

With this, the party has announced candidates for 59 of the 70 seats for the December 4 Delhi Assembly elections.
