Union home secretary RK Singh and Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar on Wednesday faced a barrage of questions from members of Parliament on the brutal gangrape of 23-year-old woman in the national Capital.

The home secretary and the police commissioner deposed before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on woman empowerment. The Delhi Police gave a presentation to the MPs on the investigation in the case so far. But the MPs wanted to know about the steps taken by the police and the government to ensure so that such incident do not recur.

Some MPs questioned why the Delhi Police took so long to act against the owner of the bus that was used by the six accused to commit the crime. They also asked the police about delayed action on tinted glass in buses and other commercial vehicles. The bus used in the crime has tinted glass and moved around in the city without even once being checked by the police.

Responding to their queries, the two top officials informed the panel about measures such as increasing patrol at vulnerable areas and deploying more PCR vans. They would now face the House panel  on home affairs on January 4.
