A two-and-a-half year old minor was allegedly sexually assaulted by her 23-year-old neighbour at her Azadpur residence in northwest Delhi on Saturday evening. The matter came to light around 7pm and the accused named Shiva, a labourer, has been arrested.

According to a police officer, the victim lived in Azadpur with her parents who also work as labourers. The incident took place on Saturday evening when the girl’s parents were out for some work. Shiva entered the room and tried to force himself on the girl. He, however, was forced to flee the spot after the girl began screaming.

The girl’s parents later returned home and found their daughter crying. Suspecting foul play, they immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital where the doctors told them that she had been sexually exploited.

“A call to the police control room was made from the hospital and a police team arrived there to record the victim’s statement. The girl narrated the entire incident to her mother who in turn told it to the police,” said an officer.

On the basis of the girl’s statement and her medical report, a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, was registered against Shiva.
