Delhi Police’s list of top 10 criminals

Shaken out of their complacency after the attempt on the life of MLA Bharat Singh — which had followed Delhi’s MLAs demanding more security — the Delhi Police, in a seeming bid to crack down on self-styled gang lords operating in the NCR, have drawn of list of some of the most wanted men known to lead loosely-knit gangs that maraud and terrorise the Capital at will.

Neeraj Bawana

Reward: Rs. 1 lakh

Extortion ‘king’: A resident of Bawana, Neeraj had allegedly made an extortion call to Jaswant Rana, an MLA from Najafgarh, prompting the Delhi Police to provide him security post-haste

Wanted for: Mainly extortion, attempt to murder and various cases of Arms Act


Manoj Morkheri

Reward: Rs. 1 lakh

Kidnaps at will: A resident of Rohtak, Morkheri allegedly runs an organised gang and gave the go-ahead for two abduction attempts — one in Vasant Kunj and in Rohini, recently

Wanted for: Two abductions for ransom, extortion, attempt to murder, Arms Act in Delhi and Haryana


Sandeep Chaitanya

Reward: Rs. 1 lakh

In cold blood: After being arrested with a cache of country-made arms in 2009, Chaitanya alias Sanju escaped from custody; wanted in several criminal cases registered across the NCR

Wanted for: Over 5 cases of murder —including two double murders, extortion and Arms Act


Vikas Langarpuria

Reward: Rs. 1 lakh

Rising ‘star’ : A resident of Jhajjar in Haryana, he was one of the first suspects in the attack on Najafgarh MLA Bharat Singh recently. Police say he is an 'upcoming extortionist'.

Wanted for: Motor vehicle thefts, extortion, attempt to murder, Arms Act in Delhi and Haryana


Sanjay Rathi

Reward: Rs. 1 lakh

Quick gun: Rathi, police claim, is a notorious gangster with his own fleet of sharpshooters. Suspected to have executed several abduction-for-ransom attempts in Haryana.

Wanted for: Extortion, contract killing, robbery, motor vehicle theft, Arms Act in Delhi and Haryana


Pappu Pandit

Reward: Less than Rs. 1 lakh

Nimble fingers: Pawan has several cases of auto lifting, robbery and extortion registered against him in several satellite towns of the NCR, including Delhi.

Wanted for: Extortion, attempt to murder, Arms Act in Delhi and Haryana


Satish alias Pawan

Reward: Less than Rs. 1 lakh

The takeover: A resident of Mongolpuri, Satish took over the reins of an existing gang in 2003 and unleashed a string of criminal activities, including armed highway robberies.

Wanted for: Extortion, armed robbery, attempt to murder, Arms Act in Delhi and Haryana


Surinder Malik

Reward: Less than Rs. 1 lakh

At gun point: A resident of Bahadurgarh in Haryana, Malik escaped from the custody of the Haryana police on April 3 this year while being brought to Delhi to be produced in court.

Wanted for: Murder, attempt to murder, robbery, the Arms Act and MCOCA


Naresh alias Sonu

Reward: Less than Rs. 1 lakh

Gang story: Naresh escaped from police custody on April 10 and is part of an organised gang that operates in northwest and outer Delhi in addition to several parts of adjacent Haryana.

Wanted for: Extortion, attempt to murder, murder, the Arms Act, bootlegging, MCOCA

 

Dhirpal

Reward: Less than Rs. 1 lakh

Across borders: A resident of Bahadurgarh in adjacent Haryana, Dhirpal is wanted in cases ranging from attempts at extortion to armed robbery, registered in Gurgaon and Delhi.

Wanted for: Extortion, attempt to murder, Arms Act
