The upgrade of the Bawana and Narela industrial areas is likely to be completed in the next couple of months.
A Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) official said the deadline to finish work at both industrial areas is December 2013.
“But we will manage to complete the work much ahead of the deadline. Narela will be ready by August. The development work at Bawana too will be complete soon,” a DSIIDC spokesperson said.
The DSIIDC had taken up the work to improve roads, parking space, drains, sewage, water lines and horticulture on public-private partnership model in 2011. While the redevelopment work at Bawana will cost Rs. 57 crore, the government is spending Rs. 130 crore in Narela.
The industrial areas are spread over 1,922 acres and 612 acres, respectively. The concessionaire responsible for the redevelopment and upgrade will also maintain the services for 13 years after construction.
Delhi industry minister Haroon Yusuf recently visited both industrial areas and described the quality of work as world-class.
There are 16,312 industrial units in Bawana while Narela has nearly 3,000 units mainly dealing in plastic goods, food items, medicine, steel, cardboard, electrical and electronic goods and office furniture.
The DSIIDC has also taken up infrastructure development work at Patparganj and Okhla.
