Delhi experienced a much needed respite from the heat on Saturday with the maximum temperature dropping to 36 degree Celsius, three degrees below normal. The city also saw a wind storm towards the evening, due to which the temperature dipped.

The temperature at 6.30pm, just before the wind storm started, was 34 degrees Celsius. Around 15 minutes into the storm temperatures dropped to 29.8 degrees.

Traces of rainfall were also seen in some parts of the city. The cooler weather was a result of a western disturbance that also brought rain to various parts of Himachal Pradesh.

The temperature for most of last week had hovered above 40 degree Celsius. The city, however, is expected to face another a hot week after the respite ends on Sunday. The maximum temperature may touch 45 degrees between May 16 and 20 and weather experts said it might be the first sustained heat wave of the season also.

Weathermen have predicted a partly cloudy sky with possibility of dust storm and thunderstorm in some parts of the city on Sunday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be between 36 and 25 degree Celsius respectively.

“The city was burning till yesterday but today’s weather is wonderful. It is a great idea to be out in such weather,” said Kavita Tripathi, who went to India Gate in the evening.
